Offensive material should only be taken down if it applies to a large number of people, not just a small handful.
But that's just an issue of appealing to the majority, no matter how nonsense their claim may be.

Just because so many people decide something is offensive doesn't mean there's anything genuinely offensive about it. Especially not when the media makes people feel like they have to be angry about everything and that every case of black face is most definitely an insidious mockery when clearly if you actually pay attention to the person and the intention behind it, it's not.


It's a pointless thing to draw controversy from when people aren't trying to harm anyone, all it does is make racial tensions worse.

And hilariously more often than not it's non-blacks that get mad about it, like black people are so fragile that they all get super upset over it when it mostly seems to be a vocal minority who largely seem to just think people are insulting them without really bothering to read in to it.

In work atm but it had lyrics about Jamaicans all living in huts and having HIV. My friend from the float actually played it to me. I'll have to listen to it again but it wasn't the smartest choice. Damn catchy song though

Well there you go, that is offensive. The thing about being offensive is that it is meant to be deeply hurtful. It's insulting, demeaning and vulgar to someone. Of course I also think that needs to be its intention. For example, I'm a huge fan of "Disturbed" and needless to say, their lyrics and message aren't kid friendly. However, I can also say that their songs are not meant to be offensive but in most cases, rather enlightening. Expressing different messages that may not be easy for some people to listen about but clearly have a point.

Again, it all matters about intention and context.

But as I said, if someone is "offended" then they essentially need to be insulted. I suppose its not out of the question for someone to hear such lyrics and be offended because it seems to be insulting say Jamaican heritage. But as I said, I don't know what the song is, I don't know what the intention of it or the actual people were with it so I can't say much. It's the same thing I said with Disturbed.

If you don't understand where David Draiman (the singer) is coming from in his music, you're just going to miss the point of them.
